The Radical Mastoidectomy is a surgical procedure where in the doctor removes mastoid air cells (a part of the skull located behind the ear), part of middle ear structure and ear canal to prevent the mastoid disease or mastoiditis (mastoid bone infection) to spread further.
Procedure for Radical Mastoidectomy
- The doctors will make a small incision in the ear to reach the middle ear and remove the mastoid air cells to avoid any infection.
- The posterior and superior canal wall of the ear is removed.
- Exteriorisation of the middle ear is also conducted.
